About VFÍ - The Association of Chartered Engineers in Iceland

Verkfræðingafélag Íslands (VFÍ) was founded in 1912. It is the labour union and professional association for engineers in Iceland (B.Sc. and M.Sc.).

VFÍ is the largest and most influential organisation of technically educated professionals in the country.

VFÍ’s strength lies in its professional approach, its active role in the labour market, and strong representation of engineers’ interests regarding wages and working conditions. Regular meetings, courses and conferences form an important part of the association’s work.

As a legally recognised contracting party, VFÍ negotiates wages and working conditions for its members. Salaried engineers belong to the Department of Wages and Working Conditions (Kjaradeild VFÍ), while managers and self-employed engineers are served by the Department of Managers and the Self-employed (Deild stjórnenda og sjálfstætt starfandi).

VFÍ conducts regular salary surveys, and its legal services are an important part of member support.
