“Verkfræðingur” (Chartered Engineer) and “tæknifræðingur” (Engineer) are legally protected professional titles in Iceland.
Only individuals who have received formal recognition may use these titles.
VFÍ is the authorised body responsible for assessing whether an applicant’s education meets official requirements.
The Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation and the Association of Chartered Engineers in Iceland have jointly established the rules for evaluating applications for permission to use the protected domestic titles Verkfræðingur and tæknifræðingur.
